Luis Suarez Breaks Cristiano Ronaldo's LaLiga Goalscoring Record Following Brace Against Celta Vigo

Luis Suarez continued his excellent start to life at Atletico Madrid as he broke a record set by former Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo following his brace against Celta Vigo during their 2-2 draw in LaLiga on Monday.

Suarez’s brace ensured that Atletico came out of the game with a valuable point and his goals meant that he has now scored 16 goals in just 17 appearances for the club since making the move from Barcelona last summer.

The 34-year-old became the first player to score 16 goals in his first 17 games for a team in the Spanish top-flight in the 21st century and he broke the record set by Ronaldo who had netted 15 goals in the same number of games for Madrid following his then world record move to Spain in 2009.

Suarez has been a key reason why Atletico find themselves at the top of the league table, with the Uruguayan scoring three goals more than his former team-mate, Lionel Messi – making a mockery of the Catalan giants decision to let him go last summer.

Diego Simeone’s men are favourites to win the title this time around as they have a eight point lead at the top, having played one game lesser than their nearest competitors in Barca and Madrid.
