Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is the best defender in the world, according to Brazilian legend Cafu.
Cafu is considered to be one of the greatest right-backs to ever play the game and is the only player to have appeared in three World Cup finals, out of which he won two.
“He’s the best defender in the world, without a doubt. He’s very good technically and tactically. He’s a great captain and a leader who always drives his team forward. I’d always like to have him in my team,” Cafu said of Ramos in an interview with Marca.
When asked if he would renew Ramos’ contract, which will expire at the end of the season, Cafu said: “I’m not the president of Real Madrid. It’s a difficult situation, but he’s an exemplary player.”
Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has come under a lot of criticism of late, but Cafu insists the Brazilian still has a lot to give to Real Madrid. He said, “He’s a phenomenon, a sensational and skilled player. He pushes forward and dribbles but isn’t afraid to play one on one. He still has a lot to give to Real Madrid and he can do anything at any time to decide a match.”
FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, and Cafu believes it would be sensational to see the Argentine and Neymar play together again. He said, “It would be sensational to see them play together again. I don’t know if Messi will go to PSG but, if he does, the fans will win.”
