A video of Asier Villalibre’s ‘highlights’ in Athletic Bilbao’s Supercopa final against Barcelona exposes why Lionel Messi got a red card.
Messi had never been shown a red card for FC Barcelona in his whole career at the Catalan club but an off the ball incident in extra-time after the 90 minutes saw him get his first marching orders of his incredible career.
Barca had led the game twice early on but Athletic had comeback to lead 3-2 in the dying minutes of extra time when Messi hit out at the opposition forward.
There were reports that Messi could miss 12 games due to this offence but it has been confirmed that the Barcelona maestro will be suspended for just two games.
If you are wondering what actually triggered Messi to do what he did, here’s a video….

Villalibre, who scored the 90th minute equaliser to take the game into extra time did everything he could in order to trigger Messi and his teammates more by celebrating with a trumpet solo on the pitch.
